#  Honoring 2026 Recipients of the Excellence in Mentoring Awards

There wasn’t an empty seat in the room. Nearly 100 members of the HMS community joined the Excellence in Mentoring Awards recipients and their mentees for the 2026 awards ceremony on June 11. The Office for Culture and Community Engagement hosted the annual event honoring recipients of the William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award, the A. Clifford Barger Excellence in Mentoring Award, the Young Mentor Award, and the 2026 HMS Scholars in Medicine Excellence in Student Mentoring Award.

Dean George Daley opened the ceremony by noting that mentorship is where integrity and accountability meet growth and discovery, blending compassion with clear, constructive feedback. While celebrating this year’s honorees, he commended them for exemplifying these core pillars of mentorship, which reflect the HMS mission and values.

Setting the tone for the day, the ceremony celebrated mentors for both their visible and invisible efforts—and for their enduring impact on the HMS community. This year’s honorees include:

## William Silen Lifetime Achievement in Mentoring Award

Closing the 31st Excellence in Mentoring Awards Ceremony, Dr. Joan Y.
