**What inspires or motivates you in your role at HMS/HSDM?**  
I am inspired every day at HSD by the people I work with. My colleagues in global and community health are dedicated to the care of the underserved and to eliminating disparities both locally and abroad. They are passionate about their work and care deeply about the communities we serve. I recently attended a presentation given by faculty and students who had been working in Bolivia. The rural communities they visited were reachable only by dirt roads. People walked for hours and began lining up at 3 am to be seen at the clinic. They were screened for oral disease and provided with preventive treatments. Many received new dentures. The transformation in the patients was amazing! Their beautiful smiles! They talked of possibilities for new jobs and (finally) husbands as a result of their new smiles. A happy smile and a healthy mouth yields a healthy and happy person. It makes my day!
