For nearly five decades, Dr. Barbara McNeil has been a leader in health policy and academic medicine. In 1988, Dr. McNeil founded the Department of Health Care Policy at Harvard Medical School, pioneering a multidisciplinary model that brought together economics, medicine, statistics, and sociology. She has twice served as interim dean of HMS. As the Ridley Watts Professor and Professor of Radiology, Dr. McNeil continues to practice nuclear medicine part time at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Her research has spanned decision analysis and cost-effectiveness analysis to, more recently, quality of care and technology assessment, including large studies comparing imaging modalities for patients with cancer.

Please join us for a conversation — moderated by Dr. Anupam Bapu Jena — to hear about Dr. McNeil’s remarkable journey, her impact on medicine and health policy, and her reflections and advice for those forging their own paths in medicine and science.
