Community Conversations

Community Conversations provide safe environments where all members of the HMS community can engage in self-reflection and dialogue, ask questions, learn, and contribute. For example, since February 2018, OCCE has hosted the Dialogue Series, an ongoing series designed to engage the HMS community in meaningful conversations on a wide range of topics. Past dialogues have explored themes such as psychological safety, microaggressions, being other, dissent in organizations, navigating challenging times as medical professionals, imposter syndrome, and first-generation experiences. 

Community Gatherings

OCCE hosts Community Gatherings for students, trainees, faculty, and staff that provide opportunities for coming together with others, making connections, and building a sense of belonging.

Lectureships 

Opening Doors

Established in 2025, the “Opening Doors” series presents conversations with HMS faculty members who over time have made significant contributions to Harvard Medical School. These conversations prompt faculty to share their professional journey including how they first joined the HMS community, changes they have seen at HMS in the decades since their arrival, and advice for recognizing opportunities and dealing with challenges in the future.  

Reflections on Medicine, History, and Society

Established in 2022, “Reflections on Medicine, History, and Society” is a series co-sponsored by the Center for the History of Medicine at Countway Library, Department of Global Health & Social Medicine, and the HMS Center for Bioethics. As part of the series, we invite authors to present their research and scholarship on topics that relate to medicine, history, and society. 

Trainings and Professional Development

OCCE provides training and professional development opportunities for members of the HMS community on a wide variety of themes. Topics include: Facilitation training, Evaluation training, Leadership Development training, and Special Session training. 

Special Sessions and Presentations

OCCE hosts Special Sessions and Presentations featuring a range of authors and speakers to provide the community with opportunities to engage in learning across a variety of topics.
