Opening Doors Series Highlights Important HMS Faculty

In 2025, the HMS Office for Culture and Community Engagement (OCCE) established Opening Doors – a series of conversations with HMS faculty who have made significant contributions to Harvard Medical School. 

By conversing with a former mentee or colleague, veteran faculty share lessons and anecdotes from their experiences at Harvard and the affiliate hospitals. Attendees are able to learn more about these titans’ backgrounds and the future prospects of the school from those who have shaped its history. 

“People often think that institutions like Harvard are static, but who we are and how we relate to one another have changed over time,” said Joan Reede, the HMS Dean for Culture and Community Engagement. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to talk to experienced leaders who have lived through so much change and to be guided by their insights as we move through the changes that are upon us now.”

This series is sponsored by the HMS Office for Culture and Community Engagement and co-organized by the Ackerman Program on Culture and Medicine, the Center for the History of Medicine at Countway Library, and the HMS Center for Bioethics.
