Students, Speakers, Judges Gather for 2026 New England Science Symposium (NESS)
Thank you to everyone who participated in the 24th Annual New England Science Symposium (NESS) at Harvard Medical School!
This year’s event featured oral and poster presentations, an empowering keynote address by Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford, obesity medicine physician-scientist, educator and policy maker at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, a career panel, an awards ceremony, and a networking session—providing attendees with opportunities to learn about recent advances and discoveries in the biomedical sciences and to build community with peers and leaders across industry, academia, medicine, and government. The highlight of the program was the energy and passion that our presenters, speakers, and attendees brought to the day, creating a vibrant, inspiring, and impactful experience.
Participation was strong, with more than 450 attendees—including general participants, presenters, speakers, and judges—representing over 100 institutions, 28 states (including Puerto Rico), and several countries. Feedback collected through our evaluation survey reflected a high level of satisfaction, with many participants noting a sense of empowerment and increased knowledge gained from the presentations.
The symposium demonstrated meaningful impact by fostering collaborations, advancing research discussions, supporting professional development, and creating a welcoming community where emerging students and scientists can thrive.
We extend our deepest appreciation to all of our judges and presenters for their commitment to advancing excellent science and contributing to the critical scientific inquiry that underpins a successful event. This event is co-sponsored by Harvard Medical School’s Office for Culture and Community Engagement (OCCE) and the Biomedical Science Careers Program (BSCP). Thank you to the staff and volunteers who made this event possible.
The 2027 NESS will take place on Sunday, April 4th as part of the BSCP Student Conference-NESS Summit Weekend. We hope to see you there!
