What inspires or motivates you in your role at HMS/HSDM?
Harvard Medical School is full of exceptional scientists, clinicians, and scholars, all of whom are deeply devoted to learning, striving, and serving the public good. I am motivated each day to try to help everyone in our community thrive and do their very best work. I am also inspired by the personal qualities I see in the people around me-their empathy, vulnerability, intelligence, and limitless energy. On their behalf, I dedicate myself to be the most conscientious steward of this institution that I can be.

What are you most proud of about your work at HMS/HSDM?
There's always so much excellence at HMS, but I am particularly proud of the impact of the Massachusetts Consortium on Pathogen Readiness, or MassCPR, which we convened during the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to inspire to this day. A driving philosophy for MassCPR was that by banding together across multiple institutions, we could mobilize to confront SARS-CoV-2, understand its epidemiology; identify emerging variants; design diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines; and catalyze action on a local and global scale. We marshalled all of our resources at a time when they were desperately needed, and I am forever grateful to all who were involved and who continue to collaborate in the fight against infectious diseases.

I'm also proud that HMS is a wellspring of innovation and opportunity. Whether through our Al-empowered biomedical discovery and teaching; through our Therapeutics Initiative, which ushers key basic science insights toward translational impact; or through alliances like the Paul Farmer Collaborative, which is developing and sustaining global health care delivery, HMS is an unrivaled community, attracting some of the brightest minds to address some of the most pressing challenges in society. It is an honor to play a role in ensuring HMS is a force for the common good.
