Maura Kilcommons
What inspires or motivates you in your role at HMS/HSDM?
I'm motivated by the people I work with. Practically everyone I meet here seems to want the best outcome in their work and they commit the effort to achieve this. Just about everyone I come in contact with seems to appreciate that I want the same for my work.
What unique skills and/or talents do you bring to your job?
I started working when I was 14 years old but after college still didn't have a career direction. One Human Resources assessment test indicated that I had a "flat profile" with no strong interest in any particular field except Housekeeping. After 32 years working here, I realize that "housekeeping" is my primary skill! My main object in all the jobs I have here has been to do whatever is necessary to keep order and keep things running smoothly. If something needs to be done, I'll either do it or figure out how to get it done.
What is the significance of the object you brought with you to the photo shoot?
I wanted to wear my vintage 1988 "We can't eat prestige HUCTW button, but wasn't able to find it. Instead, I wore a contemporary button. The highest point of pride in my working career is being a founding HUCTW member. I can speak from experience about the difference HUCTW has made for Harvard's workforce. It's a compelling example of what a good Union can be.
