What inspires or motivates you in your role at HMS/HSDM?
I am most inspired by my work with medical students. I am the Faculty Advisor for the HMS Chapter of the Association of Women Surgeons and also the Faculty Advisor for the HMS Writers Group. The students are always so enthusiastic, idealistic, and energized.

What are you most proud of about your work at HMS/HSDM?
I am proud of the Hoffman Breast Center at Mount Auburn Hospital. We have built a great treatment team and are fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. We also collaborate with the Vascular Biology Laboratory at Children's Hospital Boston on urinary biomarker research in breast cancer patients.

What is the significance of the object you brought with you to the photo shoot?
I brought my great aunt Johanna Seidl's wooden stethoscope and a photo of my father as a young boy with his family just before they left Germany in 1935. Johanna was one of the first women physicians in Germany. She was a pediatrician and shared a clinic in a small town outside of Munich with her husband Josef, a family physician. My father's summers with his aunt and uncle inspired him to be a doctor and this inspiration was passed down to me.
